Global Mental Health Outreach - Academic Activities Primarily in China

One of my aspirations studying abroad is to bring advancements in medicine and human health to China. I gave talks in 1993 and 1998 when I visited China because of illnesses of my parents. I established a collaborative team with Dr. Qingshan Geng and his team in Guangzhou, China in 2003. I have served professor consultant for several medical universities and tertiary teaching hospitals in addition. Since then I have been providing medical education / formal clinical training, clinical consultations, and many speeches at academic conferences in China regularly, aiming primarily at promoting “soft skills” that the health care system in China needs the most. I brought a medical team to Wenchuan after the 5.12 massive Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. I also donated the copyright of a clinical guidance book I led the editing to China in order to promote mental health care in non-traditional mental health setting. The investigation team I helped Dr. Geng to establish in Guangzhou has been conducting a state-of-art clinical research utilizing the protocol I originated.  With my input, several other collaborators of mine, along with Dr. Geng, have promoted the mind-body clinical practice in China to a much broader and deeper arena. We also established a Mind & Heart Journal that has been receiving great attention internationally.
